*Read-juvenate (definition): the act of reading for inspiration, to recharge one’s soul.
With the amping up of the current school year, children’s sports schedules, holiday festivities, and other family obligations, it’s about to get crazy!
It’s time for a “check up from the neck up”- as our friend Lee, a marriage/family therapist, likes to say. It refers to the importance of self-reflection, and the understanding of one’s current mindset. Are you feeling overwhelmed? Or, are you anticipating that you will be very soon? There is nothing like a good book to help put things into perspective. And, I’m about to commit the cardinal sin of book recommending….
I’m going to recommend two books that I have NOT read!
Though I haven’t completely read either book that I am recommending, I am VERY confident that they hold valuable content pertinent to this busy time of the year. Yes, I could have recommended several great books along this subject matter that I have read, but these books are HOT OFF THE PRESS and something told me that they may be just what the doctor ordered for this season….
1. Capital Gaines: Smart Things I Learned Doing Stupid Stuff by Chip Gaines
*If you have never watched the home renovation show Fixer Upper on HGTV, you
are missing out! The show features home make overs by talented Chip and
Joanna Gaines, husband and wife duo, of Waco, Texas. Here’s a little sampling…
The Gaines have become very successful, and last fall, they released their book The Magnolia Story, which I have read. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about their lives, and found them to be a breath of fresh air! When I found out that Chip released a book, a week or so ago, I decided to check it out. I am about two hours into the audio version, and I am LOVIN’ IT! It is narrated by Chip, and you feel like he is sitting in your living room chatting away. Chip is a self professing optimist and risk taker. Stories of his struggles in school, business, and his marriage, are raw and humorous. And incredibly inspiring. He makes you want to step out of your comfort zone, to embrace the differences within your spouse, to find humor in difficult situations– to name just a few things. Check out the Amazon link and listen to a sample of his book. You won’t be disappointed!
2. Laugh It Up! Embrace Freedom and Experience Defiant Joy by Candace Payne
You may not know her by name but you will know her as the viral Youtube
sensation, affectionately nicknamed “Chewbacca Mom.”
“I’m such a happy Chewbacca!” I bust a seam every time I watch that video LOL!!! I figure a woman who can sit in her car by herself and laugh it up wearing a Chewy mask, must have an amazing outlook on life. I have followed Candace’s rise to fame, which has lasted more than the proverbial 15 minutes. Whether she is being interviewed on late night tv. or doing a Facebook Live, she often refers to the “simple joys” of life. Candace has had her share of life struggles, and within her book, she explains how she has determined to choose joy in order to live a fulfilled life. Laugh It Up! will be released November 7th! I can’t wait!
You will have to let us know if you check out either of these books! It isn’t always easy to sit down and actually read a book these days, but Audible has enabled me to listen to some amazing books while getting ready for my day, commuting to work, or hanging out at the firepit with Billy. Books like these rejuvenate my soul. They inspire me to focus on the things that matter most. To be the best, that I can be. To keep renovating.
